from the question, we have
x+y=35--------(first)
2x+5y=100--------(second)
(100 cents=$1.00)
from the first equation, we have
x+y=35
y=35-x--------(third)
by substituting the third equation into the second one, we have
2x+5(35-x)=100
2x+175-5x=100
175-3x=100
175-100=3x
3x=75
x=25
by substituting x=25 into the third equation, we have
y=35-25
y=10
checking:
(first):25+10=35
(second):2*25+5*10=50+50=100
