let x = the multiplier
then
4x = Jane's age
3x = Maria's age

In 6yrs Jane will be 26.
4x + 6 = 26
4x = 26 - 6
4x = 20
x = 20/4
x = 5 is the multiplier

How old is Maria now? 3 * 5 = 15 yrs is Maria's age
