You can put this solution on YOUR website! Remembering that the slope-intercept form of a linear equation is
y = ax + b where a is the slope and b is the y-intercept, the job here is to rearrange the given equation into the slope-intercept form.
-2x+y=-2
y = -2 + 2x [add 2x to both sides]
y = 2x - 2 [rearrange terms]
So, the slope of the line is 2 and the y-intercept is -2.
By intuition you might ask, what value for x will make y = 0? When x is 1, then y will be 0. So the x-intercept is 1.
With more rigor, you can calculate the slope of the line between the points (0,-2) and (xi, 0). The second point is the x-intercept for which we don't know the value of xi. But the slope is given by the difference in y divided by the difference in x (rise over the run) which is then which we know is equal to 2 (the slope).
So, and solving gives xi=1.
