In mathematics, an
EQSPRESSION is a general term for any well formed combination of mathematical symbols. It may consist of just one or more numbers, variables, operators, functions, and their arguments that evaluate to a single answer.
example: x%5E2-10x%2B1
EQUATION can have one or two values for the variables used depending on the value equated with the expression.
example: single variable equation: x%5E2+-10x%2B1+=+0
An equation does+not output a value. We can solve the equation and find out the values of the variables. The equation would be valid only for certain values of the variables.
Values of variables in the equations are solved based on the value equated.
In a vertical line test, graphs of equations intersect the vertical line at one or two points.
Equations always have a graph.

A FUNCTION always outputs a value and functions can have solutions based on the input for the values of the variables.
The values of variables in functions are assigned.
Graphs of functions can intersect the vertical line at multiple+points.
Some functions cannot be graphed.
Functions are subsets of equations.
example of a function: suppose the function f%28x%29+=+10x%2B20, what this means is that this function outputs different values for different input values of variable 'x' and if x=10 we have
+f%2810%29+=+10%2A10%2B20+=+120
so, if we substitute different values into x and get different outputs, and the important point is that every function outputs a value

Finally, remember that both equations and functions use expressions.
