Question 678998: what is the most number of terms and least number of terms that can occur when adding a monomial and trinomial
Answer by pmatei(79) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If the monomial cancels one of the trinomial terms, you end up with a binomial (2 terms).
If the monomial combines with one of the trinomial terms, you will have another trinomial as result (3 terms).
If the monomial cannot be combined with any of the trinomial terms, you end up with a 4-term polynomial.
So, most number is 4, and least number is 2.
