You can put this solution on YOUR website! There are 440 students attending a biology lecture.
The ratio of male to female students at the lecture is 6 to 5.
How many men and women are attending the lecture?
:
Here's one way to do this:
let x = the multiplier
then
6x = no. of boys
5x = no. of girls
:
6x + 5x = 440
11x = 440
x = 440/11
x = 40 is the multiplier
therefore
6*40 = 240 boys
and
5*40 = 200 girls
