You can put this solution on YOUR website! This problem has ties in things like the law of total probability and inutuitivly makes sense. 60% of the town is women, so that's 600 women. 40% wear one earing and half of the rest wear two. The rest is 60%, half of it is 30%. So,

This is the number of earring worn by women. It's 2*.3 because 30% wears two earrings. Clearly then there are 400 men in the town. 60% wear one earring and half ot the rest wear two. The rest is 40%, half is 20%. So,

This is the number of earrings worn by men.
