You can put this solution on YOUR website! y^2+49+14y (I need to factor it)
Rewrite as:
y^2+14y+49
Think of two numbers whose product is 49 and whose sum is 14.
The numbers are 7 and 7.
Replace 14y with 7y+7y to get:
y^2+7y+7y+49
Factor the 1st two terms and the last two terms separately as follows:
y(y+7)+7(y+7)
Factor out the common factor of (y+7) to get:
(y+7)(y+7) or (y+7)^2
--------------------------
Also i didn't get how to solve this:
8y^2-18y-5
Think of two numbers whose product is 8*-5 = -40
and whose sum is -18.
The numbers are 2 and -20
Replace -18y by 2y-20y to get:
8y^2+2y-20y-5
Factor the 1st two and the last two terms separately as follows:
2y(4y+1)-5(4y+1)
Factor out the (4y+1) to get:
(4y+1)(2y-5)
--------------
PS: This method is called the AC Method
