write -5R + 12U in polar form
You need to find r and theta.
r=sqrt(5^2+12^2)=13
theta=artcan(12/-5)
=-67.38+180
This is the answer your calculator will give because the
range of arctan is -90 to 90. But, since you have -5 and
+12 as your x y coordinate, theta is in the 2nd quadrant.
So you add 180 degrees to the calculator answer to get:
=112.62 degrees

Then the polar form is 13(cos112.62 + i sin112.62)
