The Queen Mary is a large cruise ship that has 8,123,700 cubic feet of cargo space. Express this number in scientific notation.
answer I have-8.1237x10 to the 7th.

However, your exponent is incorrect!

Stanbon answered you correctly, saying that since you must move the decimal 6 places to the left in order to get a number that is between 1 and 10, this should be 8.1237 x 10^6. Your teacher was probably indicating to you with the note "exponent" that your number was correct, but the exponent was wrong.
