Question 675645: department of university has 300 students in three degree programs MBA(Regular), MBA(Information technology)and MBA(executive). the number of MBA(Regular)student is equal to the sum of the number of MBA(Information Technology) and MBA(executive) students. the number of MBA(executive)student is 50 more than the number of MBA(information technology) students. find the number of students in each degree program.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let R = the number of students in the MBA (regular) degree program
Let I = the number of students in the MBA (information technology) degree program
Let E = the number of students in the MBA (executive) degree program
we know that the number of students in the regular program = the number of students in the information technology program plus the number of students in the executive program so:
R=I+E
we also know that the number of executive students is 50 more than the number of information technology students so:
E=I+50
we also know that all three programs added together equals 300
we want to solve for one variable
so plug the value (I+50) we have for E into what we have for R
so: R=I+E becomes R=I+I+50
so we have I
R=I+I+50
E=I+50
I+R+E=50
I+I+I+50+I+50=300
4I+100=300
4I=200
I=50
R=I+I+50 so R=50+50+50=150
E=I+50 so E=50+50=100
answer: there are 50 students in the information technology program, 100 students in the executive program, and 150 students in the regular program
