You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The ratio of a quarterback's completed passes to attempted passes is 8 to 9. If he attempted 27 passes, find how many passes he completed. Round your answer to the nearest whole number, if necessary.
----
8 to 9 is the same as 8x to 9x where 8x is # of completed passes.
------
Equation:
8x + 9x = 27
17x = 27
x = 27/17
----------
8x = 8(27/17) = 12.7 = 13 people when rounded up.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

completed passes to attempted passes are directly proportional

completed passes,+8 to attempted passes 9 is 8%3A9 or 8%2F9

If he attempted 27 passes, then completed x passes; so, we have
8%2F9=x%2F27...cross multiply
8%2A27=x%2A9
216=9x
216%2F9=x
24=x
