You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a collection of coins has a value of $4.90, there are 20 more nickels than dimes. how many nickels and dimes are there?
--------
Equations:
Quantity: n = d + 20 coins
Value::: 5n + 10d = 490 cents
--------------------------------
Substiute for "n" and solve for "d":
5(d+20) + 10d = 490
5d + 100 + 10d = 490
15d = 390
d = 26 (# of dimes)
-----
Solve for "n" using n = d+20
n = 26+20
n = 46 (# of nickels)
==========
