Question 673603: I need help with solving the problem: x to the third power minus x = 2x to the second power minus 2.
If I move everything to one side and then factor it out, and equal them to zero, is that solving it?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

No, that’s not solving it. You need to do more, as follows:

x%5E3+-+x+=+2x%5E2+-+2

x%5E3+-+2x%5E2+-+x+%2B+2+=+0

x%5E2%28x+-+2%29+-+1%28x+-+2%29+=+0

%28x%5E2+-+1%29%28x+-+2%29+=+0

(x - 1)(x + 1)(x – 2) = 0

highlight_green%28x+=+1%29, OR highlight_green%28x+=+-+1%29, OR highlight_green%28x+=+2%29
