This is what I came up with, not sure if I am right or way off! Thanks for the help!

IF...what You have is...

f(x) = x^2 + 8  and g(x) = sqrt%28x-1%29

fog(x) = x-1 + 8 = x + 7    ||Note: %28sqrt%28x-1%29%29%5E2+=+x-1
