Question 672376: Hello,
This is a problem that was on a test and my math teacher and I had different answers.
At a computer chip factory, a machine temporarily malfunctioned and damaged 2900 chips. Normally, 150 chips are damaged, and 540 are produced in good condition each day. How many days will it take the factory to recover from the malfunction?
I thought the answer was 6, by excluding the bad chips daily. My math teacher thought it was 8, by counting the bad chips into the inequality.
I don't understand why the bad chips matter, because if it happens daily, then you're more likely to throw them away than count them into your total for the day. Could you please explain which answer is correct, and why its correct?
Thank you!
