The x-axis is the horizontal axis and the y-axis is the vertical (straight up and down) axis. When denoting a point in the x-y plane, you always denote the x-value first and the y-value second. That is any arbitrary x-value and y-value are denoted as (x,y). Hope this helps!!

When you are plotting a point does the x or y come first?
Coodinates go in this order (x,y)
If you have the point (3,6), x=3 and y=6
Notice they go in alphabetical order.
The x is the horizontal distance the point is from the origin (0,0) and y is the vertical distance away from the origin.
