You can put this solution on YOUR website!
last week the earning was -X
this week the earning was4x-18
Together the earning was x+4x-18
5x-18=262
5x=262+18
5x=280
x=280/5
x=56
This week he earned 4x-18---> 4(56)-18=
206
$206 this week

Armando works part-time at a pet store. This week he earned $18 less than 4 times the amount he earned last week. His total earnings for the two weeks were $262. How much did he earn this week?
-------
Let his earnings this week be "x".
Let his earnings last week be "y".
----
Equations:
x = 4y-18
x + y = 262
----------------
Substitute for "x" and solve for "y":
4y-18 + y = 262
5y = 280
y = $56 (last week earnings)
----
Solve for "x":
x + y = 262
x + 56 = 262
x = $206 (this week earnings)
