You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x be the number of the games a baseball team won and y be the number of the games a baseball team lost
if a baseball team lost 5 more games then it won, then we have
y-5=x.........eq. 1

if a baseball team played 109 games, then we have x%2By=109....eq.2
solve the system:
y-5=x.........eq. 1
x%2By=109....eq.2
__________________________
y-5=x.........eq. 1...substitute in eq. 2

y-5%2By=109....eq.2...solve for y

2y=109%2B5
2y=114
y=114%2F2
highlight%28y=57%29
now go back in eq. 1 and calculate x
52-5=x.........eq. 1
highlight%28x=52%29
so, a baseball team won highlight%28x=52%29 games and lost highlight%28y=57%29 games
