You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L=Length
W=Width
2L+2L+16=24
4L+16=24
-16-16
_________
4L=8
/4/4
L=2
L+8=W
2+8=W

the length of a rectangleis 8 inches more than it's width. the perimeter of the rectangle is 24 inches. what are the length and width?

Let width be W
Then length = W + 8

2L + 2W = 24 ----- 2(L + W) = 2(12) ------ L + W = 12

W + 8 + W = 12 ------- Substituting W + 8 for L
2W = 12 - 8
2W = 4

W, or width = 4%2F2, or highlight_green%282%29 inches

L, or length = 2 + 8, or highlight_green%2810%29 inches
