4d+%2B+500m+=+197
You can solve by substitution if you want too. But let's use a different method.
Take the first equation and multiply it by 4 to get
20d+%2B+1200m+=+712
Now take the second equation and multiply that one by 5 to get
20d+%2B+2500m+=+985
Now subtract the first modified one from the second modified one as follows
20d+%2B+2500m+=+985
20d+%2B+1200m+=+712
--------------------------
+1300m+=+273
Solve for m
m+=+273%2F1300
m+=+0.21 or 21 cents a mile
