In general the volume of a cube is V=e%5E3, where e is the length of one of the edges of the cube.
if the length of one of the edge is e=1ft, then the volume of a cube is
V=%281ft%29%5E3
V=1ft%5E3

so, the volume of a 1ft cube is not 1ft
