j = g-15
(g+6) = 2(j+6)

Substitute for "j" and solve for "g":
g+6 = 2(g-15+6)
----
g+6 = 2g - 2*9
-----
g+6 = 2g-18
g = 24 (Gary's age now)

Solve for "j":
j = g-15
j = 24-15 = 9 (Jan's age now)
