I don't understand the 2nd problem, here is some help on the 1st:
:
Assume log( ) means base 10
:
1. Solve for x: log(9) = log(x) - log(3)
:
Remember subtracting logs is done when you divide so we can write this:
log(9) = log (x/3)
:
If the log of 9 equals the log of x/3, then:
9 = x/3
:
Mult eq by 3
27 = x
:
:
Check it:
Substitute 27 for x and check on your calc: log(27) - log(3) = .9542.......
check log (9) = .9542..... also
