Question 664240: Marcus and Tony work for the same company. Marcus lays a slap of concrete in 5 hours. Tony lays the same size slab in 6 hours. If both work on the job and the cost of labor is $55.00 per hour, decided what the labor estimate should be.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Just in case you are yet in need of a solution...
Rate (Marcus) = 1/5
Rate (Tony) = 1/6
Rate (Marcus & Tony) = 1/x
...
1/5 + 1/6 = 1/x
Multiply the entire equation by x
1/5x + 1/6x = 1
Create a common denominator
6/30x + 5/30x = 1
11/30x = 1
Multiply both sides by 30/11
x = 30/11 = 2 9/11 = 2.73 hours
At the labor cost of $55.00 per hour, the estimate should be
55*2.73 = $150.15
