SOLUTION: find two consecutive odd numbers whose square of the larger number is 208 more than nine times the smaller number

 

Hi,

find two consecutive odd numbersand whose square of the larger number 

is 208 more than nine times the smaller number

Translating into an equation***

 (x+2)^2 = 9x + 208

x^2 + 4x + 4 = 9x + 208

 x^2 - 5x - 204 = 0   ||factor or use the Quadratic formula 

(x-17)(x+12) = 0 , x = 17  (throwing out negative even number -12)

 The two consecutive odd numbers are  17, 19
