You can put this solution on YOUR website! if candle A has to burn for 8 seconds, candle B has to burn twice as long as candle C where as candle D has to burn 3 times less than candle B and the total time spent burning all candles is 30 seconds how long does candle B,C and D have to burn? :
 if candle A has to burn for 8 seconds,
 a = 8
 candle B has to burn twice as long as candle C
 b = 2c
 or
 c = b/2
 :
 where as candle D has to burn 3 times less than candle B
 d = (1/3)b
 :
 and the total time spent burning all candles is 30 seconds
 a + b + c + d = 30
 a = 8, therefore
 b + c + d = 22 sec
 :
 how long does candle B,C and D have to burn?
 replace c with b/2 and d with b/3
 b + b/2 + b/3 = 22
 multiply by 6, to get rid of the fractions
 6b + 3b + 2b = 6(22)
 11b = 132
 b = 132/11
 b = 12 min for candle b
 then
 c = 12/2 = 6 min for candle c
 and
 d = 12/3 = 4 min for candle d
 :
 Check this 8 + 12 + 6 + 4 = 30 min
