Question 662106: andrew can paint the neighbor's house 6 times as fast a bailey. the year andrew and bailey worked togther it took them 5 day. how long would it take each to paint the house? Answer by htmentor(1343) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let b = Bailey's rate in houses/day
Then Andrew's rate = 6b houses/day
Working together, it takes them 5 days to paint the house, so their combined rate is 1/5 houses/day:
b + 6b = 1/5
7b = 1/5
b = 1/35 house/day
So Bailey would take 35 days to paint the house, Andrew would take 35/6 = 5 5/6 days
