Question 661065: What are the intercepts of the following equation?
-4x - 6y = 24
x- intercept ________ y-intercept _________
I tried to put it in y = mx + b form, but it didn't seem right.
-4x - 6y = 24
+4x +4x
-6y = 24 + 4x
--- -------
-6 -6
y = -4x + 2/3

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi,
-4x+-+6%2A0+=+24
x- intercept (-6,0) When y = 0 ⇒ -4x = 24, x = -6
-4%2A0+-+6y+=+24
y-intercept (0,-4) When x = 0 ⇒ -6y = 24, y = -4
As to putting it in y = mx + b form (not necessary, but good practice)
-4x - 6y = 24
+4x +4x
-6y = 24 + 4x ||Good Work
|| Dividing both sides by -6
+y+=+-%282%2F3%29x+-4
Note: this generates Pts (0,-4) and (-6,0) as well, naturally
