Question 660873: I am having a hard time on setting this problem up. I keep getting ridiculous numbers with remainders.
"I am thinking of a number. I subtract 7, multiply the result by 5, and then add 25, I get 80. What is the number?" Found 2 solutions by ReadingBoosters, MathTherapy:Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Work backward, like following directions in reverse when you are leaving from the destination.
80 - 25 = 55/5 = 11 + 7 = 18
Proof
18-7 = 11 * 5 = 55 + 25 = 80

Let the number be N
Then: 5(N - 7) + 25 = 80
Solve for N and you have your number
