You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi, there--

Problem:
Find g(a+1) when g(x) = 1/2x -5 .

I think you found g(a) instead of g(a+1).

Answer:
I'm not sure from your typing whether you mean
I: g(x) = %281%2F2%29x-5

OR

II: g(x) = 1%2F%282x%29-5

OPTION I:
g(x) = %281%2F2%29x-5

Substitute a+1 for x in the function g. Watch those parentheses!
g(a+1) = %281%2F2%29%28a%2B1%29-5

Simplify.
g(a+1) = %281%2F2%29a%2B%281%2F2%29-5
g(a+1) = %281%2F2%29a-%289%2F2%29

OPTION II:
g(x) = 1%2F%282x%29-5

Substitute a+1 for x in the function g.
g(a+1) = 1%2F%282%28a%2B1%29%29-5

Simplify.
g(+1) = 1%2F%282a%2B2%29-5

There you go!
