Question 660231: (x+2)^2+5=(x+3)^2
Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Starting with
(x+2)^2 + 5 = (x+3)^2
Expand
(x+2)(x+2) + 5 = (x+3)(x+3)
FOIL - first, outside, inside, last
x^2 + 2x + 2x + 4 + 5 = x^2 + 3x + 3x+ 9
Combine like terms
x^2 + 4x + 9 = x^2 + 6x + 9
Bring everything to the left and set equal to 0
x^2 - x^2 + 4x - 6x + 9 - 9 = 0
-2x = 0
-2x/-2 = 0/-2
x = 0
