You can put this solution on YOUR website! Martina leaves home at 9 A.M., bicycling at a rate of 24 mi/h. Two hours later, John leaves, driving at the rate of 48 mi/h.
At what time will John catch up with Martina?
 --------------
 Martina DATA:
In the 1st two hours Martina travels 48 miles.
After that she travels x miles.
Her total distance is x+48 miles
 Her Rate is 24 mph.
 Her time is (x+48)/24 hrs.
 --------------
 John's DATA:
His distance must be the same as Martina's: x+48 miles
 His Rate is 48 mph.
 His time is (x+48)/48 hrs.
 --------------
 EQUATIONn:
 John's time = Martina's time-2
 (x+48)/48 = (x+48)/24 -2
 (x+48)=2(x+48)-96
 x+48=96
 x=48 miles
 -------------
 Answer to question:
 Martina time = (x+48)/24 = (96)/24=4 hrs
 9:00+4 hrs = 1:00 PM
 Cheers,
 Stan H.
