Question 658681: Two angles are complementary. The measure of the larger angle is five times the measure of the smaller angle. Find the measure of the larger angle.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Since the larger angle is 5 times larger, the first angle can be represented as x and the second as 5x. Since they are complementary, their sum must be 90 deg and the following equation expresses that.
Remember as you simplyfy, what you do to one side you must do to the other.
x+5x=90
6x=90
1/6*6x=1/6*90
1*x=15
x=15
This tells you that one of the angles is 15 deg and the other must be 5*15 or 75 deg. 15+75=90 and so yes, they are complementary.
