So if 100 people competed and there were 6 more boys than girls, how many girls? What i do first is ask how many girls are competing if the boy to girl ratio was equal. If i know that the equal number would be 50, i now know that the number of girls would have to be less than 50. Because there is only a six person difference, i would divide 6 by2 to get three, which i will now subtract from 50 in order to get the total number of girls, 47.
