You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A farmer wants to mix milk containing 6% butterfat with 2 quarts of cream that is 15% butterfat to obtain a mixture that is 12% butterfat. How much milk containing 6% butterfat must he use?
---------------
Let x qts be amount of 6% milk; amount of butterfat is 0.06x qts.
Amount of 15% milk is 2 qts ; amount of butterfat is 0.15(2)=0.30 qts
Amount of 12% mix is "x+2" qts.; amount of butterfat is 0.12(x+2)=0.12x+0.24
-------------------
EQUATION:
fat+fat=fat
0.06x+0.30=0.12x+0.24
0.06x=0.06
x=1 qt (Amount of 6% butterfat milk that must be added.)
