Question 657412: What is the difference between coefficients and like terms?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Coefficients are the numbers in front of (multiplying) a variable.
...
For example, x, 2r, 3w, 4q have the coefficients 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
...
Like terms are variables and the degree of variable.
...
For example, 2a + 4b has two different terms.
3x%5E2+-+6x%5E3 also has two different terms.
...
To simplify 2a + 9a + 4b + 7b, combine like terms to get
11a + 11b
...
To simplify 3x%5E3+%2B+15x%5E3+-+6x%5E2+%2B+20x%5E2, combine like degree variable terms, to get
18x%5E3+%2B+14x%5E2
