You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have a right triangle, therefore you can use the Pythagorean Theorem.
This states that for legs a,b and hypotenuse c, you have:
a%5E2+%2B+b%5E2+=+c%5E2
Using this we have
%285%29%5E2+%2B+%2812%29%5E2+=+c%5E2
25+%2B+144+=+c%5E2
169+=+c%5E2
+c+=+13+ or c+=+-13
But since we're talking about a length, c can only be positive.
Thus c =13.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

use Pythagorean theorem: c%5E2=a%5E2%2Bb%5E2
the hypotenuse c
legs are a=5ftand b=12ft
-----------------------------------
c%5E2=%285ft%29%5E2%2B%2812ft%29%5E2

c%5E2=25ft%5E2%2B144ft%5E2

c%5E2=169ft%5E2

c=sqrt%28169ft%5E2%29

c=13ft
