| Question 65583: Write this ratio in simplest form:
 1/10 / 1/4
First I must flip the second problem:
 1/10 / 4/1
Now I can get rid of the 10 and 4 by dividing it by 2 Leaving it with:
 1/5 / 2/1
Now I can cross out the ones:
 5 / 2
 Giving me an answer of:
 2
Although I do not believe this is right because I can not have a remander right?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Write this ratio in simplest form: 1/10 / 1/4

You really don't have a remainder. You have a fraction (5/2) but, in fact, you should have (2/5)

 Simplify (1/10)/(1/4)
You are right about flipping it but when you flip it, you are then multiplying -- not dividing. In fact, I would say that you gave it a good shot. Nice effort!!!!!

What we actually do it multiply the numerator and denominator by 4 (in other words 4/4 which equals 1) and that gets rid of the bottom fraction:
((4)(1/10))/((4)(1/4)) when we cancel , we have left:
 ((4)(1/10))/(1) or

(4/1)(1/10) and this equals 4/10 and that reduces to 2/5 which is the simplest form.
You can check this by using a calculator.
