Question 655650: (6,7) 8x+y=4
I saw that the answer is 1/8x+25/4 but I have absolutely NO idea how they got 25/4, can you PLEASE explain in detail!
Thank you!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! It seems that the point (6,7) lies on a perpendicular line to 8x +y = 4
Putting the equation into slope intercept form, we get y = -8x + 4
Since the line we are looking for is perpendicular, then it's slope is 1/8(negative reciprocal)
The new equation is y = 1/8x + b
Substitute (6,7) into this equation
7 = 1/8 (6) + b
7 = 3/4 + b
7 - 3/4 = (28-3)4 = 25/4
The equation is now y = 1/8x + 25/4
