What do you mean by "the slashes are fractions, not divisions"? If you are laboring under the gross misapprehension that fractions and division are two different things, then you need to go back and re-learn your arithmetic. If you are trying to say that the the two instances of the variable are not included in the numerators, then you need to use parentheses to indicate this fact -- not some made up and confusing mis-definition of the words fraction and division. Be that as it may, your rendering is ambiguous. Re-post using parentheses to properly indicate the contents of the numerators of your rational expressions.
