See I'm trying to help my son who's always been in special ed in elementary
and has had one on one help on his math and reading.
So now that he's in jr. high it hard for him, and for me to couse I don't
know how to do this kind of math myself. Here's one of the problems
3.5 divided by -4
:
You have to use long division here, place the decimal in the answer above the
number you are dividing
When a positive number is divided by a negative number the answer will always,
be negative. Add some zeros to 3.5
:
using periods here to keep things lined up
:
..... -0.875
.......-------
-4 |3.5000
.........32
........---- 4 goes into 35, 8 times with a remainder of 3, bring down the 0
...........30
...........28
...........---- 4 goes into 30, 7 times with a remainder of 2, bring down the 0
............20
............20
............---- 4 goes into 20, exactly 5 times, no remainder, so we're done

you can check this on your calc, enter -.875 * -4, results: 3.5
