Question 654031: Simplify the following:
Question 1:
(8x+4y)-(2x+7y)
- To try to simplify this equation I used the FOIL method. First,Outter,Inner, and Last. That gave me:
16x+56xy-8xy+28y
- I then subtracted 56xy from 8xy which gave me:
16x+48xy+28--------|> This is the part where I confused myself. I dont know if I simplified the equation correctly.

First thing, the FOIL method is not used here. This is because the expression has a negative (-) between the binomials. If it'd involved FOIL, it'd be expressed as (8x + 4y)(2x + 7y), as opposed to (8x + 4y)-(2x + 7y)
(8x + 4y) - (2x + 7y) = 8x + 4y - 2x - 7y ------ Applying the distributive property
