144 + 108 would give you two sides of the rectangle, but a rectangle has 4 sides! So:


144 + 108 = 252 (this is 2 sides)


144 + 108 = 252 (this is the other two sides)


Now add them together!


252 + 252 = 504 inches.


To not think so much, the formula for the Perimeter of a rectangle is:
P = 2L + 2w
So:
P = 2(144) + 2(108)
P = 288 + 216
P = 504 inches
