Two trains leave the same railroad yard at the same time. The eastbound passenger flyer is averaging 20 miles per hour faster than the slower westbound freight. 9 hours later, how far apart will they be?
This is what I've come up with so far, I doubt it is right though.
9(x+20)= x
9x+180= x
(9x+180)/9= x+20
(x+20)-20= x=-20
x=20mph
20x9= 180 miles(Freight)
20+20= 40
40x9= 360 miles(Passenger)
360-180= 180 miles apart
Please help, it would be greatly appreciated.

There is missing information. The speed of the slower train (call it x) can be anything. The distance they travel (how far apart they'll be) depends on that speed: x of one train and x+20 for the other. x can be anything. There has to be an additional piece of information, such as somehow relating the ratio of the distances each traveled.
