Let length = x
Then width = 18-x

Area = length*width
Area = x(18-x)=72cm^2
18x-x^2=72

(x-12)(x-6)=0
x=12 or x=6
Length = 12 cm then width=6cm
or
Length = 6 mn then length = 12 cm
