Question 651548: Hello. Any help on the following is greatly appreciated.
Find the standard score (z) such that the area below the mean and below z is about 16% of the area under the normal curve.
Note: I've seen this answer z = invNorm(0.16) = -0.9945, however I'd like to understand the steps to get here. Thanks! Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Find the standard score (z) such that the area below the mean and below z is about 16% of the area under the normal curve.
Note: I've seen this answer z = invNorm(0.16) = -0.9945, however I'd like to understand the steps to get here.
----
To SEE these statistical formulas you should
1st: draw a normal curve with horizontal base being z-values.
---
2nd: Mark a z=0 in the middle
---
3rd: Shade a left tail area 16%
----
4th: Use a TI calculator to find the z-value with a left tail of 16%.
invNorm(0.16) = -0.9945
That is the z-value that cuts off a tail of 16%
