Question 65102: Write teh slope-intercept from of an equataion of the line that passes through the given point and is parallel to the graph of each equation.
3,2),y=x+5
x-2,5),y=-4x+2
please help explain how and what the teacher is asking for. Thanks Answer by tanimachatterjee(60) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! y = mx + b
This is called the slope-intercept form because "m" is the slope and "b" gives the y-intercept . i think u know about the slope of the straight line.
equation of the straight line which is parallel to the line y=x+5 is y=x+k
where k is a constant
y=x +k passes through ( 3,2)
therefore 2=3+k
k=-1
required equation is y=x-1
slope intercept form is y=x-1
equation of the st. line parallel to the line y=-4x+2 is y=-4x + h
where h is a constant
putting the value (x-2,5), 5=-4(x-2)+h
h=4x -3
the equation is y=-4x +4x -3
y=-3
this is the required slope intercept form
