You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let x=number of employees in aerospace division
Then 3000-x=number of employees in agricultural division

Now we know that the number of employees laid off in aerospace (.10)x plus the number of employees laid off in agricultural (.15)(3000-x) must equal the total number of employees laid off (.12)(3000) so our equation to solve is:
.10x+.15(3000-x)=.12(3000) simplifying we have:
.10x-.15x+450=360 collecting like terms:
-.05x=360-450
-.05x=-90
x=1800 number of employees in aerospace div
3000-x=3000-1800=1200 in agricultural div
.1(1800)+.15(1200)=.12(3000)
180+180=360
360=360
