You can put this solution on YOUR website!

the area of floor is 540ft%5E2 .
each tile is 20.5in by 20.5in; so, find the area of a tile
20.5in%2A20.5in=420.25in%5E2 ....now convert in%5E2 into ft%5E2

There are 144in%5E2 to a ft%5E2 because 1+ft=12in
%28420.25%2F144%29ft%5E2=2.918ft%5E2
now, divide the area of a floor with area of a tile to get a number of tiles needed
540ft%5E2%2F2.918ft%5E2=185.05825908156271418779986291981=185

i have 540 sq ft of floor to cover with tiles.
each tile is 20.5" by 20.5"
How many tiles do i need?
-------------------------
area of each time: 20.5^2 = 420.25 sq inches
420.25 sq in (1 ft/12 in)^2 = 420.5/144 = 2.918 sq ft.
------
# of tiles = 540/2.918 = 185.03
